Spoilers for all Paul Rudd movies and shows that I’ve reviewed at this point.
Back in 2022 I’d fallen behind on Ruddtrospectives so I ranked everything I’d covered at that point. I’ve been more consistent in releases now but I think it’s time to reevaluate that ranking and take into account all the weird shit I’ve had to see since then. So let’s do it, guys! Yay!!! It’s Rudd Ranking Time! Also by the way there’s way too many things on this list, it’s more about hyper-linking all the reviews in one place.
–
63. F.R.I.E.N.D.S(1994-2004)
Ruddtrospective #11: The One Where John Hates F.R.I.E.N.D.S.
Paul Rudd is dreamy, but I can’t forgive David Schwimmer for playing possibly the worst character in sitcom history.
Rudd Rating: 6/10(I’ve downgraded this performance because I had to watch this show.)
62. The Size of Watermelons(1996)
Ruddtrospective #34: Sailing The Seas Of Low Budget Indie Films Part Two
Vacuous empty bullshit. And it gave me a mid-midlife crisis, which I didn’t appreciate.
Rudd Rating: 3/10(I remember less about his performance as more of my brain dies.)
61. 200 Cigarettes(1999)
Ruddtrospective #34: Sailing The Seas Of Low Budget Indie Films Part Two
There’s a reason we don’t see holiday-based actor ensembles anymore, and this is probably the worst of them all.
Rudd Rating: 3.6/10(He… has sideburns?)
60. Halloween VI: The Curse of Michael Myers(1995)
Ruddtrospective #35: An Unhappy and Boring Halloween
It’s the first movie he ever made. And you can tell.
Rudd Rating: 3/10(It’s good for him Clueless came out first, or he’d have no career.)
59. The Château(2001)
Ruddtrospective #33: Sailing The Seas Of Low Budget Indie Films
I own this piece of crap on DVD now. And it looks like it was filmed on the reflection of a shiny boot.
Rudd Rating: 5.5/10(He has good curly hair, but not much else going on.)
58. The Perks of Being a Wallflower(2012)
Ruddtrospective #1: An Assortment of Bad Movies
One of the most depressing films of all time.
Rudd Rating: 6.2/10(That line he says is good.)
57. This is the End(2013)
Ruddtrospective #1: An Assortment of Bad Movies
I should rewatch it, but… I don’t know. I thought it was gross.
Rudd Rating: 6/10(What I didn’t remember is that his big moment in this film is accidentally crushing a woman’s head with his foot while carrying a massive bottle of champagne. And isn’t that wonderful.)
56. The Cider House Rules(1999)
Ruddtrospective #37: Don’t Go To War Or Tobey Maguire Will Steal Your Life
I didn’t realize that I was reviewing a movie about abortions the day the 2024 election occurred. So. Bad timing.
Rudd Rating: 7.5/10(Wartime Paul is solid, but…)
55. Bash: Latter-Day Plays(2001)
Ruddtrospective #32: TV Movies and Plays, Oh My!
Really messed up, but Tobey Maguire and Ezra Miller aren’t in it, so yay!
Rudd Rating: 7.5/10(I’d recommend not watching if you’re a fan of Paul. But do watch if you like good acting.)
54. How Do You Know(2010)
Ruddtrospective #38: How Do You Know You’re Bored?
It was slightly better on a rewatch but it just feels so written, so… twee.
Rudd Rating: 7.1/10(His character in this is like Role Models Paul and Dinner for Schmucks Paul with more impotence and less funny.)
53. The Shape of Things(2003)
Ruddtrospective #33: Sailing The Seas Of Low Budget Indie Films
Plays being adapted into movies are always interesting, but I would have liked it if there was more to this adaptation. Not many changes were made, it felt empty, and we just get stuck with four irritating characters.
Rudd Rating: 7.6/10(In retrospect he gets a somewhat malicious version of She’s All That via Rachel Weisz, in that he was clearly attractive pre-makeover.)
52. Nerdland(2016)
Ruddtrospective #39: Paul and Patton’s Animated Odyssey
Could have been funnier and less gross but I should really just appreciate how weird it is.
Rudd Rating: 7.1/10(I would love to see him in more random animated things. Like maybe he does an English dubbing for a Studio Ghibli movie or he gets thrown in a Pixar movie. Or maybe not, Pixar isn’t as good anymore.)
51. Twelfth Night, Or What You Will(1998)
Ruddtrospective #32: TV Movies and Plays, Oh My!
It’s Shakespeare. I think the staging of the production was interesting enough, but at the end of the day, it was a three hour play.
Rudd Rating: 9.5/10(I give him a high rating because he looks very cool. What a fun costume.)
50. The Locusts(1997)
Ruddtrospective #34: Sailing The Seas Of Low Budget Indie Films Part Two
Depressing, depressing, depressing. It’s the kind of movie they don’t really make anymore, or when they do, it looks better and it gets nominated for awards. This is no The Power of the Dog, a movie I haven’t seen but assume is similar.
Rudd Rating: 7.8/10(I think he had a weird limp? Not his most attractive role.)
49. The Great Gatsby TV Movie(2000)
Ruddtrospective #32: TV Movies and Plays, Oh My!
I should read the book. Or watch the Baz Luhrmann movie because I definitely wasn’t put off by Romeo + Juliet or Elvis. This is just kind of boring.
Rudd Rating: 7.8/10(He was almost definitely better in the role than Tobey “wooden actor” Maguire. I don’t know though.)
48. Mute(2018)
Ruddtrospective #12: The Many Sides Of Rudd
This movie is boring and depressing, but it’s okay. Paul Rudd is good as a villain, and this movie reminded me of that. So yeah. Generally it’s just a depressing intense film with no real quality to back it up.
Rudd Rating: 6.4/10(It’s funny that when Paul Rudd is meant to be a creep and horrible person, he’s still portrayed as somewhat sympathetic, but when he’s meant to be a good guy, like in Overnight Delivery, he seems like more of an ass. That’s only in bad movies, though.)
47. The Oh in Ohio(2006)
Ruddtrospective #10: Paul Gets Weird
It’s one of the weirdest, most insane movies that I’ve ever seen. Honestly? What a legendary film. Danny DeVito with a ponytail being a pool company sex god? Why?! Ha!
Rudd Rating: 6.2/10(Whenever he plays a total creep well, I have to remind myself that he’s doing a good job with the material given. Even if, sometimes, his characters seem to be written as horrible unintentionally.)
46. Overnight Delivery(1998)
Ruddtrospective #18: Road Trippin’/Road Paintin’
I’m sure it’s better than most of the wannabe Planes Trains and Automobiles rip-offs. And it was filmed in Minnesota. But boy, it’s such a stupid film.
Rudd Rating: 6.2/10(He’s very attractive in this.)
45. Dinner For Schmucks(2010)
Ruddtrospective #14: A Schmuck Reviews A Movie About Schmucks
It sucks. But Jermaine Clement is in it, as some kind of artist sex god idiot, and Jermaine Clement rocks. This isn’t a Jermaine Clement blog, but I appreciate how versatile he is.
Rudd Rating: 6.5/10(Playing the straight man is sometimes not fun. You basically just have to be a normal guy who acts like a dick sometimes and then learns a lesson. And he does it well because most of the time he’s still charming.)
44. Secrets of the Octopus(2024)
Ruddtrospective #30: The Fascinating World Of The Octopus
It’s a documentary. A James Cameron documentary. In a way, I shouldn’t have ranked it this high. In another way, I don’t care.
Rudd Rating: 8.1/10(He’s got good documentary voice, that Paul Rudd.)
43. I Could Never Be Your Woman(2007)
Ruddtrospective #10: Paul Gets Weird
It is deceptively much weirder than any movie has any right to be. I honestly don’t understand why they would cast Michelle Pfeiffer in a movie largely obsessed with plastic surgery and looking old.
Rudd Rating: 6.6/10(You can’t help but like the guy.)
42. Over Her Dead Body(2008)
Ruddtrospective #10: Paul Gets Weird
It’s just another movie(Because for some reason there are multiple) about a guy with a dead wife who won’t let his new girlfriend be with him. It’s kind of funny, and that’s about it.
Rudd Rating: 6.6/10(He’s kind of whiny and they don’t give him a lot to do, but he has some funny scenes at his job. He’s a veterinarian in this.)
41. The Shrink Next Door(2021)
Ruddtrospective #9: 2021’s Rudd-Rankings
I think that Paul Rudd did a great job of portraying a guy who clearly was incredibly broken on the inside. I would never watch it again or recommend it to someone, but I thought it was fine. He’s just a dick and Will Ferrell’s character didn’t deserve it.
Rudd Rating: 7/10(He never really gets to do serious dramatic acting, so it was nice to see him trying something new.)
40. Our Idiot Brother(2011)
Ruddtrospective #2: Clueless About Something
This movie isn’t very memorable, despite the fact that multiple legendary and hilarious comedic actors are in this. It’s not bad, it’s just fine.
Rudd Rating: 6.8/10(Again he’s very charming, but I don’t know if I love him with long hair and a long beard.)
39. All Is Bright(2013)
Ruddtrospective #8: All Is Bright…?
This is another depressing movie about a guy who just got out of prison and now needs to sell trees with the guy dating his wife in order to afford a Christmas present for his daughter. Paul Rudd plays a complete dick in this with a couple of redeeming qualities. Overall I kind of like this movie.
Rudd Rating: 7/10(His weird pseudo-Canadian accent doesn’t always work, but he’s good in this.)
38. Ghostbusters: Afterlife(2021)
Ruddtrospective #5: Who Ya Gonna Call?
I’ve mentioned multiple times that I didn’t really like this movie. A movie that only really works if you’re nostalgic for another movie isn’t a good movie. That being said, Paul Rudd is insanely hot in this. The hair and beard combo? Wowza!
Rudd Rating: 7.1/10(He gets an extra point for looking super hot, but he disappears for half the movie.)
37. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire(2024)
Ruddtrospective #28: A Slightly Frozen Empire
If you wanted a whole movie of funny people wandering around doing nothing but talk about something that may happen and then all the cool trailer stuff got cut out and it’s not that funny, then good for you, I guess.
Rudd Rating: 7.9/10(He gets even less play and the beard’s not as good but who cares.)
36. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania(2023)
Ruddtrospective #25: Paul Rudd’s Tiniest Adventure Yet
This movie was not the end of cinema and Marvel as a whole people made it out to be. Was it good? Very much not, and we shouldn’t have gotten an Ant-Man movie like this that betrayed what came before. If you revisit my review you’ll see my alternative pitch which was much better.
Rudd Rating: 7.9/10(This is the worst iteration of Scott Lang we’ve gotten so far, but it’s still Paul Rudd as Scott Lang.)
35. Romeo + Juliet(1996)
Ruddtrospective #31: Romeo + Juliet + Paul
This is beloved by many people and I can appreciate it for what it is, but it’s too much for me, I’d say. Too insane.
Rudd Rating: 7.5/10(How could Juliet look at Paul Rudd in his astronaut costume and not pick him?! Le gasp, indeed.)
34. Admission(2013)
Ruddtrospective #1: An Assortment of Bad Movies
It’s just fine. From memory it’s mostly about Tina Fey being a great admissions counselor that realizes how toxic her college is when she realizes a child she gave up years ago might be denied admission. And he just plays the banal love interest.
Rudd Rating: 7.1/10(He’s VERY good looking.)
33. Clueless(1996)
Ruddtrospective #2: Clueless About Something
I’ve never really liked it as much as everyone else. And the fact that Paul Rudd ends up with her even though they used to be step-siblings? That’s kinda creepy. But it’s also the movie that launched his career. So yeah. I don’t know.
Rudd Rating: 7.5/10(He is very charming and fun in this movie, but it gets less points because he has a creepy beard in different scenes.)
32. The Bob’s Burgers Movie(2022)
2022: A Year in Review
There’s not much to say. It’s a feature length episode of a show I like but have stopped watching for no particular reason. I don’t remember it really, I just know I watched it on my day off when I was working at a camp.
Rudd Rating: 6/10(I don’t think they even got him in to record new dialogue, honestly.)
31. The Object of my Affection(1998)
Ruddtrospective #2: Clueless About Something
If you want to watch a thing with Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston in it, this should be the go-to pick. F.R.I.E.N.D.S is terrible, as mentioned, and Wanderlust, a movie I have not yet reviewed, isn’t very good either. It’s maybe his most straightforward romdram movie.
Rudd Rating: 7.5/10(Paul Rudd is known for his comedic performances, but every once in a while he reminds you what a great dramatic actor he is. This is one of those performances.)
30. Prince Avalanche(2013)
Ruddtrospective #18: Road Trippin’/Road Paintin’
There are some weird voiceover bits that don’t make a ton of sense, but for a movie about two guys yelling at each other in the woods? It’s fun enough. Also Paul Rudd looks like Luigi, and that’s kind of funny.
Rudd Rating: 7.3/10(Good performance, but his weird mustache makes him look less attractive. Actually, nevermind. I just looked at some photos. It isn’t the mustache. It’s the weird road-painting uniform.)
29. What If…? S1 E5: What If…? Zombies?!(2021)
Ruddtrospective #9: 2021’s Rudd-Rankings
It’s a fun episode with cool zombie stuff, and Paul Rudd plays a head in a jar. So yeah.
Rudd Rating: 7.8/10(Paul Rudd is a great voice actor and he should be in more animated movies.)
28. What If…? S2 E8: What If… The Avengers Assembled in 1602?(2023)
2023: A Year in Movies and Other Stuff
This season was the peak of What If…? for me and the two episodes after this brought the whole thing downhill. But this episode was fun and fittingly weird.
Rudd Rating: 7.8/10(I like the concept of the episode more than I’m interested by his jovial outlaw version of Scott, but it all balances out in the wash.)
27. Saturday Morning All-Star Hits!(2021)
Ruddtrospective #9: 2021’s Rudd-Rankings
I like the concept of 90’s cartoons but they’ve become fucked up. You get depressed skateboarding dinosaurs, pissed off artist care bears, other stuff. The guy who made this, Kyle Mooney, made an A24 movie called Y2K that I want to see. Good for him.
Rudd Rating: 7.3/10(I’m still not sure why he was in this, but like I said, he’s a good voice actor.)
26. Diggers(2006)
Ruddtrospective #34: Sailing The Seas Of Low Budget Indie Films Part Two
This was a surprisingly good movie. It’s very lowkey, it’s just a hang around film with good vibes. I don’t know if I would rewatch it, but it’s a good time.
Rudd Rating: 7.7/10(His performance is solid but I feel like age-wise he’d passed the point in his career where he could play “Guy with lost potential who needs to leave his hometown”, which may be the point of the character but still.)
25. Paul Rudd/Seth Rogen Lay’s Commercial(2022)
Ruddtrospective #16: Judd Apatow Is A Good Director – Part Two
It’s a weird commercial. Should it be on this list? Who knows?! Certainly not me! Why am I doing any of this?! Life is fucked! Lay’s owns the world!!!
Rudd Rating: 8.4/10(Paul Rudd doing ridiculous things as himself will never not be fun to see.)
24. Ideal Home(2018)
Ruddtrospective #21: The Best Paul Rudd Movie?
Paul Rudd and Steve Coogan play gay upper-crust food network people with a grandson that shows up out of the blue. And I really like this movie. I think it’s great.
Rudd Rating: 9/10(Paul Rudd is both incredibly attractive and very funny in this movie. So yeah.)
23. Anchorman: The Legend Continues(2013)
Ruddtrospective #22: Sixty Percent of the Time…
They just retread all the jokes from the first one in slightly different ways. But Paul Rudd is funny. He isn’t given much to do. That’s my issue with the Anchorman movies.
Rudd Rating: 7.5/10(It’s impressive that he was able to actually grow that hair/mustache combo. Not just once, but twice! Insane. He’s got very versatile hair in general.)
22. Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy(2004)
Ruddtrospective #22: Sixty Percent of the Time…
It’s a funny movie but the jokes never landed for me the way it did for others. I tend to fall in love with his less mainstream stuff than stuff like this. I can still appreciate how good it is though.
Rudd Rating: 8/10(This movie automatically gets a higher rating because of “60% of the time it works every time.”)
21. Only Murders in the Building(2021-)
2022: A Year in Review
Ruddtrospective #27: Only Murders With Paul and Meryl, Building Somewhat Irrelevant
Ruddtrospective #36: Three Murders, One Building, And Roughly Twelve Celebrity Guest Stars
As a whole, this show is more quiet and cozy than uproariously funny, which can be a bummer given who the leads are, and I wish Selena Gomez could get a consistent arc throughout the show. But these last two seasons, especially four, were very strong. And obviously I’ll keep watching.
Rudd Rating: 8.7/10(This is a law of averages. He was good but underused as “Hollywood prick” and hilarious but underused as “weird Irish slapstick stunt double”. If he doesn’t come back again as a new character, I’ll cry.)
20. Ant-Man and the Wasp(2018)
Ruddtrospective #24: Three Marvelous Movies
This is a vibes movie as well. It gets overlooked because none of the villains are super commanding, there’s no massively memorable action sequence, but it’s just a comedic hangabout movie. And everyone’s doing a good job so I don’t care. It’s also way better than the third one.
Rudd Rating: 9.5/10(Paul is at his most charming and hapless. He knows exactly what to do here. Watch the improv scene with him and the great Randall Park and try not to laugh. I dare you.)
19. Captain America: Civil War(2016)
Ruddtrospective #24: Three Marvelous Movies
It’s undoubtedly the weakest of a great trilogy, but not by much. It’s just baggier and not really a Captain America movie. I rewatched it recently. Good stuff. It’s weird and comic booky. But it should be. A bit too visually sterile though.
Rudd Rating: 9/10(You got tiny Paul Rudd, giant Paul Rudd, Paul Rudd riding an arrow, Paul Rudd grabbing Chris Evans’s chest and playing prison drums on a bucket. I mean… should I say more? Orange slices!)
18. Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers(2022)
2022: A Year in Review
I’m a little surprised people don’t really like this movie. I’ve showed it to a few friends, it’s weird and fun, and I love John Mulaney and Andy Samberg. In an era of bad animated/live action movies and exercises in studio IP, this shines out as a genuine and heartfelt good time.
Rudd Rating: 8.1/10(Aunt Man!)
17. Two Days(2003)
Ruddtrospective #33: Sailing The Seas Of Low Budget Indie Films
This was a big surprise. I assumed based on the premise it would be a super depressing indie movie, but it ended up being a really interesting and funny character study starring two of my favorite actors. Who knew?
Rudd Rating: 9/10(One of his best performances, hands down.)
16. Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story(2007)
Ruddtrospective #29: We’re The Beatles, The Four Beatles
This is such a funny movie, man. Comedy for me, particularly Paul Rudd comedies, can be hit and miss for me as you can see. This is a big hit for me. I love stupid weird musician biopic parodies. I’ve only seen two. And I love them both. Excellent shit.
Rudd Rating: 10/10(“We’re the Beatles, the four Beatles. I don’t look like John Lennon but who cares.”)
15. The Bear(2022-)
2022: A Year in Review
So technically I shouldn’t add this. But he is in it sort of. He has a voice cameo at the end of season one, there’s a cardboard cutout of him in season three. So shut up, it counts. It’s an incredible show. So so good. I know people are down on season three for some reason. Shut up. Love this so damn much. The Olivia Colman cameos alone. My God.
Rudd Rating: 8/10(I think he was an arcade game voice? Talking to Fak? Good stuff.)
14. Avengers: Endgame(2019)
Ruddtrospective #24: Three Marvelous Movies
I have blinders on for this. I can’t not love it. He’s not my favorite part of this movie, but he’s part of the team and he’s consistently funny. I still don’t know if I love when Steve says his ass is America’s ass, but it’s great when Scott says it.
Rudd Rating: 9/10(It’s insane that he’s a superhero at all, let alone that he was in one of the highest grossing movies of all time. That’s how charismatic he is though.)
13. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem(2023)
Ruddtrospective #26: Teenage Mutant Cartoon Turtles
I love this film so much. The animation is fucking awesome. The jokes are spot-on. That scene where they do a car chase set to “What’s Up?” by the 4 Non-Blondes is so fucking good. I don’t even care if he’s not in the sequel. I’m there.
Rudd Rating: 9/10(Paul as a skateboarding mutant gecko. ‘Nuff said.)
12. Gen-Y Cops(2000)
Ruddtrospective #20: Happy 53rd Birthday, Paul!!!
Maybe I should place this higher on the list. It’s so unbelievably ridiculous and terrible and poorly acted. Watching a bunch of poorly-dubbed actors run around and fight weird CGI robots is not something I thought I would enjoy. And the idea that Paul Rudd is in this makes no sense. But it’s awesome.
Rudd Rating: 11/10(He agreed to do this as a joke, and they made him bleach his hair blonde. Do you need me to explain why he’s great in this stupid movie?)
11. The Fundamentals of Caring(2016)
Ruddtrospective #12: The Many Sides Of Rudd
It’s weird that Selena Gomez is in this road trip drama comedy about a sad writer and a British dick. But also the sad writer and British dick are really good characters. I’ve seen this a good eight times and I like it more every time even though it’s kind of depressing.
Rudd Rating: 10/10(I don’t know why, but I don’t exactly believe Paul Rudd as a writer. He’s very good in this though. I can’t think of much else to say.)
10. The 40 Year-Old Virgin(2005)
Ruddtrospective #15: Judd Apatow Is A Good Director – Part One
I like this a lot but I’m not inclined to rewatch it all the time. Steve Carell is really good in this. I like the store he works at. And I enjoy watching Catherine Keener play a non-menacing and terrible character for once. She’s too good at being menacing!
Rudd Rating: 8.5/10(I don’t really like his character, and I know that’s probably the point. But the bit where he asks Jane Lynch if they can get rid of the store’s Michael McDonald CD is pure gold.)
9. Parks and Recreation(2009-2015)
Ruddtrospective #7: Let’s Talk Parks and Rec!
Parks and Rec is one of my favorite TV shows of all time. And season four is probably my favorite season. My main complaint about Parks and Rec‘s Bobby Newport appearances is that Paul Rudd doesn’t show up nearly enough and from memory he has no interactions with Ron Swanson. Parks and Rec is far superior to The Office, which isn’t that good to begin with. Fight me.
Rudd Rating: 9.5/10(I love the character of Bobby Newport, and how he Wii bowls next to a real bowling alley.)
8. Knocked Up(2007)
Ruddtrospective #16: Judd Apatow Is A Good Director – Part Two
This is another one that I think is really funny and I just don’t revisit it enough. Apatow is a great director. There’s only one of his films I actively dislike and two I think are meh. He probably doesn’t get enough credit for bringing about an era of great realistic comedy because it led to an equal amount of poor imitators, but man he’s good. And this is one I know I’ll like more as I get older.
Rudd Rating: 8.5/10(He’s a side character in this and they don’t give him much to do compared to the sequel, but he’s fun and sarcastic and mean.)
7. The Little Prince(2015)
Ruddtrospective #12: The Many Sides Of Rudd
A bittersweet story about how growing up doesn’t mean you have to lose your imagination. All the scenes in the real world look like The Incredibles and all the scenes from the book look like papier mâché. This is a great movie and everyone should watch it.
Rudd Rating: 9.5/10(Again, Paul Rudd is a great voice actor and he should be in more animated movies. I know you’re reading this, Paul Rudd. Be in more animated movies!!!)
6. Forgetting Sarah Marshall(2008)
Ruddtrospective #13: When Life Gives You Lemons
I like this more every time I see it. If you haven’t seen this, watch it now. It is so fucking funny. I love this so incredibly much. Jason Segel is a weird but brilliant man, and his love of puppets led to a solid Muppet movie and one of the best third acts of a comedy film of all time. Fuck yeah.
Rudd Rating: 9/10(Even with a couple of short scenes, Paul Rudd managed to steal the show in this movie.)
5. Ant-Man(2015)
Ruddtrospective #19: Tiny Justice
It’s funny and perfectly cast. I enjoyed the weird small-scale low-stakes heist plotline. I like Michael Douglas and his weird bickering with Paul Rudd. This is a great movie though I wish we had gotten Edgar Wright’s version.
Rudd Rating: 9.5/10(This is the quintessential Paul Rudd performance. The slightly dumb charm of his version of Scott Lang is so unbelievably great. I love Ant-Man and I know we’ll never get another movie but I hope we see him again.)
4. Role Models(2008)
Ruddtrospective #3: Rock And Roll All Night And Part Of Every Day
As I’ve mentioned before, this movie has some of my favorite lines in anything ever. I don’t really understand why I love it so much. I dislike most of the other movies that David Wain makes, but this one is so random and ridiculous and nothing in this movie makes any sense. Why are two people that just committed a crime being put in charge of small children? Why did anybody let this weird movie end in a Larping tournament. I love this movie. It’s great. Watch it. Everyone should watch the top ten things on this list. Top eleven, actually.
Rudd Rating: 10/10(This is of my favorite Paul Rudd performances of all time. Watching him run through a park dressed as one of the members of KISS and hitting people with a foam sword makes me unbelievably happy.)
3. This is 40(2012)
Ruddtrospective #17: Judd Apatow Is A Good Director – Part Three
I was surprised by how much I loved this movie on rewatch. It’s probably my favorite Judd Apatow movie. Although Trainwreck is also very funny. But yeah. This ranking is ludicrous. If you want to watch a long movie about two married people yelling at each other and being miserable, then you should watch this one. I haven’t seen many other movies from the “They should probably get divorced” genre, but I imagine this is the best one. Great soundtrack too. Also Leslie Mann, Chris O’Dowd and Megan Fox are all very good in this.
Rudd Rating: 10/10(There’s a hilarious bit where Paul Rudd tells Leslie Mann that she’s made him the Art Garfunkel of his own life. That should be quoted more. I can’t tell if the Paul Simon song they play at the end is meant to be a reference to this or not.)
2. I Love You, Man(2009)
Ruddtrospective #4: I Love This Movie, Man
This might have been the movie that made me fall in love with Paul Rudd as an actor. It’s so funny and cringey and watching Paul Rudd and Jason Segel become awkward best friends is just really great. Also the soundtrack is amazing and there’s like ninety different actors from other things that I love who just show up and spout hilarious one-liners. It’s just a really good movie that more people should watch.
Rudd Rating: 10/10(Paul Rudd knows how to be awkward and hilarious.)
1. Living With Yourself(2019)
Ruddtrospective #6: Double The Fun
It may not be for everyone, but this is easily my favorite Paul Rudd thing. It’s funny, it’s depressing, it’s weirdly sci-fi sort of. The great Aisling Bea plays Paul Rudd’s wife, and does a great job too. I just really, really like this show. I think everyone should watch it. Also now it kind of reminds me of Severance, which is easily my favorite TV show of 2022. But yeah. Please go to Netflix and watch Living With Yourself.
Rudd Rating: 10/10(As I said before about Paul Rudd and his dramatic performances, he really is a terrific actor. This show proves why he’s such a good actor. He put in two great performances at the same time. I love this show.)
So! Wow. I did a thing. I don’t know if I survived or not, or if anyone will ever read this. But hey, I did it. The Top 10 didn’t change a lot. But the bottom of the list got filled out a bunch, didn’t it? Anyway. Thank you for reading this if you did. More blog stuff to come soon. I’m in my final semester of college so it may be a bit sporadic, but look out for a Top 10 TV show list, more random rankings, more Movie Pitches, short stories, and dumb stuff.
Also next time… we’re going to summer camp! I wonder what that means! This’ll be fun. See you then!
